The getaway car broke down. They walked.

The vintage Beetle was supposed to carry them from the church to the reception. It started. It drove half a mile. It coughed twice and died on Admiralty Way with a dignity that old cars maintain even in failure.

The driver apologised. The groom looked at his bride. She looked at the road ahead. Half a mile to the reception.

She gathered her dress. He took her hand. And they walked.

Down Admiralty Way. In full wedding attire. Cars honking congratulations. Strangers cheering from the sidewalk. A danfo driver who slowed down and offered them a ride which they declined because some walks are not about the destination.

They arrived at the reception twenty minutes late, slightly sweaty, and laughing in a way that told everyone the story before a single word was spoken.

The best exits are the ones you do not plan.
