DAY 19 - THE GREAT BENIN EMPIRE AND THE GHANA EMPIRE.

Africa had many organised system of governance before colonisation changed the face of everything.

Let's talk about the Great Benin Empire that existed from 1140-1897 and the Ghana Empire that flourished from the 8th to the 13th century.

The Benin Empire was one of the oldest and most highly developed states in the coastal part of West Africa until it was annexed by the British Empire in 1897. They had a unique and unparalleled monarch system of government. It is said that the line of kings is untainted by foreign blood, from Eweka 1 to the present king. One beautiful thing about this empire is that it has stood the test of time.

The Ghana Empire, also known as simply Ghana, Ghanata, or Wagadu, was a West African classical to post-classical era western-Sahelian empire based in the modern-day southeast of Mauritania and western Mali. Although it is uncertain among historians when Ghana's ruling dynasty began, the empire was know for it's gold, iron and weapons. It had a sophisticated administration but later fell to drought, civil war and to the Sosso Kingdom.

Both empires were located in West Africa and might share some relations. Until this is discovered, we stand in awe of these two great empires of Africa of ancient times.
