The executive chairman of Potiskum local government area Hon. Salisu Muktari has completed the renovation, modernization and re-structure of the Potiskum abattoir.
The executive chairman updated the abattoir or slaughterhouse in order to provide a good system for the butchers who are meat producers and to clean the environment where they handle animals to provide people with a clean place to export meat.
Renovation of this abattoir will greatly help to reduce the pollution of the environment, supply of blood and other pollutants that can cause diseases among the people near the area, also the modernization of the abattoir will limit the inhalation of polluted air for the people of the area and helpful to the health of the community.
Alh. Ibrahim Yunusa Chairman Butchers Association Potiskum chapter confirmed that:
"We have been facing many challenges in the management of this abattoir before, starting from the problem of water which is the foundation of every slaughterhouse because it is with it only we can clean the meat of the animals we slaughtered.
"We have been in fear for a long time due to the lack of security because we don't have wall that surrounds this abattoir, which has thrown this abattoir into extreme decline. Also before now we have no place to hang our animals we are working on a self-help basis there is no help or Welfare from any Government.
"But since the arrival of the Honorable Chairman Hon. Salisu Muktari, almost everyone here has been convinced that the work of the butcher has been freed because we have had enough drinking water by providing us with an underground dam and a modern tank to ensure that water is sufficient.
"Then he surrounded and built every part of this battle, now we are all proud of this abattoir." Alh. Ibrahim Yunus said
The Honorable Chairman created a special slaughtering section, animal rearing section, animal, packing section and commercial section and he also provided them with enough water and surrounded the abattoir with modern walls.
Now the abattoir has a modern entrance that is two (Gate) the entrance and an exit Gate.
