The Amalfi Coast is what happens when God decides to show off.

Colorful buildings stacked on cliffs like a child arranged them by favorite color. Lemon trees growing out of impossible angles. Roads so narrow that the bus driver crosses himself before every curve and you understand why.

Positano falls down the cliff toward the sea like a waterfall made of pastel houses. Ravello sits above everything like a balcony over the Mediterranean. Amalfi itself is a cathedral, a piazza, and gelato that tastes like the entire summer concentrated into a cone.

I ate fresh pasta with clams at a table that was technically on a cliff. The waiter brought limoncello and said it is from our trees and pointed at lemon trees growing five feet from my chair.

Travel tip: take the ferry between towns, not the bus. Your stomach will thank you. And go in May or October - June to August is beautiful but suffocating.

the way you described positano as a waterfall of pastel houses... yeah that's it. i went last october and it was so quiet, i almost felt guilty for having the whole little beach to myself. totally second the ferry thing too - we took the bus from amalfi to positano and i legit thought we were gonna scrape the side of a building

Honestly, the lemon trees are what got me. You can't fake that smell. It follows you through every alley and makes you forget you're about to fall off a cliff.

That last line about the bus driver crossing himself - too real. I was gripping my seat so hard I left permanent fingerprints. Worth every white knuckle for the views though.

That bus driver bit is pure poetry. I remember sitting on the cliffside path between Positano and Amalfi just watching the colors shift with the sunset and realizing some places don't need filters.

The bus driver crossing himself - I'd be doing the same if I had to navigate those roads for a living. Did you hike the Path of the Gods trail? That view from above changes how you see the whole coastline.

The lemon groves there made me understand why Italians put lemons in everything - pasta, dessert, even their perfume. Took a cooking class in Ravello and the smell alone was worth the trip.
