The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho
You will either love this book or find it unbearably simple. There is no middle ground. I loved it.
A shepherd boy named Santiago travels from Spain to Egypt looking for treasure. Along the way he meets kings, alchemists, and the desert itself, which teaches him that the universe conspires to help those who pursue their Personal Legend.
The cynics will say this is naive. The cynics are right. It is naive. And naive is sometimes exactly what you need when the world has made you too clever to believe in anything.
The sentence that stayed with me: when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it. I do not know if this is true. But I know that believing it makes you move differently through the world.
Who should read this: anyone at a crossroads. Anyone who has stopped dreaming. Anyone who needs permission to want something unreasonable.
Rating: 8/10. Read it once in your twenties. Read it again in your forties.
