The National Association of Telecoms Subscribers has threatened to sue the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC over the 50 percent tariff hike.

The adjustment came after the Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria and the Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria raised several concerns, asking the commission to review call tariffs upwards.

Reacting to the development, President of the association, Deolu Ogunbanjo claimed that the commission did not carry subscribers along in the arrangement.

Ogunbanjo said the association understood the dilemma faced by the telecoms industry and had suggested a 5 percent to 10 percent marginal increase in tariff.

He described the federal government’s approved 50 percent tariff hike as unacceptable, advising the operators to explore the Nigerian exchange for financing options.
