THE SYMPHONY OF HUNGER

By SIMU

In the quiet corridors of my belly,
a rebellion begins —
soft at first, like whispers under moonlight,
then rising,
a full orchestra of need.

The pangs strike their drums with perfect timing,
burning in symphony —
a medley of ache and anticipation,
a melody only hunger can compose.

My bowels hum in basso profundo,
a duet with memory —
of steaming stews, of laughter round bowls,
of spoons clinking like tambourines of survival.

The kitchen becomes cathedral,
and every grain a gospel note.
Garri waits in holy patience,
ready to baptize me in sweetness and salvation.

I laugh, weak but alive,
for in this harmony of want and wonder,
I hear the oldest music known to man —
the song of survival,
played on the strings of an empty stomach,
conducted by creation itself.

The symphony of hunger is such a beautiful metaphor. It makes me think about those long waits for food and how sometimes meals can be so much more than just fuel. Sometimes they bring people together, like the warmth of a shared meal during tough times.
