Hello #neighbors
📍Jos North, Nigeria
Angwan Rukuba happens to be one of the bustling streets in Jos North and doubles as a commercial centre for shop owners and street vendors. As you can see from the pictures shared above, these vendors are symbols, a testament of resilience and hard work.
Slide 1: The young lady by name is Hauwa and she's a groundnut seller. I've closely observed that she sells about four (4) trays of groundnut.
What amazes me is how she carries the tray of fried groundnuts balanced effortlessly on her head likea good physics student. In her words translated from Hausa to English, she said, "I try to sell four tray-full load of groundut to make up to five thousand naira."
Slide 2: The second image you is that of Adams, a young vendor specializing in selling soaps, creams, and other essentials, a lifeline for many in Angwan Rukuba community. Surprisingly, this has been his spot for the past 1 year.
Slide 3: This vendor sat beside his wheelbarrow filled with neatly cut sugarcane sticks. K.B, the short for Kabiru is one hardworking man I know. He scarcely stays at one spot.
Interestingly he pushes this barrow from Angwan Rukuba, to Tina junction, British America and Terminus. His work is simple yet demanding, requiring patience and physical effort under the scorching sun.
These vendors remind us that, even in the absence of structured job opportunities, hard work and ingenuity can turn the most challenging circumstances into a means of sustenance. Salute!
