Through the famous nation of Tanzania are various monumental structures, naturally endowed beauties and a lot of ancient cities. Some of these structures have gained worldwide recognition.
Speaking about some of the famous places in Tanzania include:
1. Mount Kilimanjaro (the highest mountain in Africa)
2.Serengeti National Park
3.Ngorongoro Crater (a collapsed volcano with a high density of wildlife)
4.Zanzibar (an island known for its beaches and Stone Town)
5.Lake Manyara National Park (famous for its tree-climbing lions) amongst of other breathtaking monuments.
Our focus on today's edition of the #DiscoverAfrica and #VisitAfrica writing experience, our focus is centred on the Zanzibar Island.
Otherwise known as the Spice Island, Zanzibar Island holds a heritage record with UNESCO as one of Africa's ancient cities. The streets are laced with uniquely carved and visually beautiful old buildings that date back to the Colonial regime.
From a distance you can feel the refreshing scent of the sea and spice stemming from the markets where various spices like black pepper, lemongrass, vanilla, nutmeg, cinnamon and turmeric are mass produced and sold.
Now you see why it earned the name spice. These spices connect African, Indian, Arabian and European recipes as well as their cultures.
Personally, I recommend to take a boat ride to Prison Island so you encounter its giant land tortoises. Visit the Jozani Forest Tour to have a firsthand view of rare red monkeys.
The Old Arab Fort, Sultan’s Palace/Beit al-Sahel, Old Slave market, the Cathedral of Christ Church, Darajani Market and the Mtoni Palace Ruins are eye-catching views for tourist to visit and appreciate African history and culture.
