Sober or Active... or What?

I tried as much as possible to relate to my mentor what my friends advised.
I feel like she is kinda tired of this issue. This is like the third time in one week I have called her to speak about this.

But what can I do? My friends and acquaintances are telling me one thing, but I have another in my heart.

And for one reason or the other, I have not been able to get the answer from the scriptures which she told me to study. It's supposed to have all the answers right?

Looking at my face, my mentor had to leave her sit to mine just to hold my hands.
I must look too troubled because she hardly does this.

I think this will be the third time it's happening since the 3 years of me knowing her. Yeah, she is like that. She comforts, but does not pamper.

" Ruth, The ways of the children of God are completely different from the ways of those who are not children of God. That is the first thing you should know. If your actions, and others that you know have not accepted Christ are looking alike, in character and behavior, then you should check it again. I'm not saying that you should always be in the opposite direction of what they are doing but... I hope you understand."

And then, in one of the Epistles, Jesus speaking, implied that whoever will receive the gift of the spirit must be sober, which means being in the right frame of mind."

And apart from getting drunk, anything basically that makes you lose your calmness and control, anything that will make you not balanced mentally, in such a way that your judgment can get clouded, you should do away with it."

It was starting to click. Finally.

"And one more thing. Next time I tell you to study the scriptures for the answer to any of your questions, I'm not expecting you to do it on your own. Ask the Holy Spirit, study with your friends until you find it.
It may not be in one particular verse, could be in a number of verses across books, but it's there. And it's only the Holy Spirit that will open your eyes to see it.
Don't ever think the scriptures don't have answers to any question you could ever have."
