Senate Committee on Reparation and Repatriation convened a high-level diplomatic forum to deliberate on the enduring scars of colonial exploitation, the return of stolen artefacts and how to right the wrongs of the past.
While declaring the session open where the Chamber hosted African diplomats in Abuja, Committee Chairman, Ned Nwoko, maintained the urgent need for African countries to confront their shared history of slavery, plunder, and colonial subjugation.
He called on the continent to speak with one voice in seeking redress for centuries of dispossession.
Speaking also, Chief Whip of the Red Chamber, Tahir Mongunu, who represented the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, echoed this sentiment.
Mongunu argued that reparations and repatriation are no longer marginal issues but central to global justice movements.
