Set on the edge of one of Botswana’s most historically significant mining towns, Selebi-Phikwe Airport may not buzz with frequent commercial flights, but its importance lies in strategic access and local connectivity. Located just outside the urban area, this small airport serves as a gateway to the Tswapong Hills, Lepokole Hills, and central Botswana’s scenic and cultural attractions.

🔹 What It Is:
A domestic public airport primarily used for private charters, occasional government flights, and by flying clubs. The runway is paved and long enough to accommodate light to mid-sized aircraft.

📍Coordinates:

Roughly 10 km from Selebi-Phikwe town center

Proximity to Phikwe Lake, Motlhabaneng area, and Bobonong Hills

🧭 Tourism & Utility:

Although it doesn’t offer scheduled passenger flights currently, the airport is a valuable base for aerial safaris, NGO logistics, and fly-in tourism for remote lodges.

Useful for photographers, cultural researchers, and nature lovers exploring little-known eco-tourism gems around eastern Botswana.

🛠 Facilities:

A single asphalt runway

Basic terminal building with minimal services

Parking area and open access for light aircraft operations

💡 Travel Tip:
Planning a private fly-in to eastern Botswana? This is your airstrip. Arrange charters from Gaborone or Francistown and coordinate transfers with local guides. Nearby attractions like the Lepokole Rock Art, Motlhabaneng Rock Paintings, and Tuli Wilderness are within driving distance.

Selebi-Phikwe Airport might be small in size, but it opens the door to some of Botswana’s most culturally rich and geologically striking terrain.
