SAFETY FIRST!

Unfortunately, greed has eaten so deep into the minds of average Nigerians and before we begin to point hands to the people in government positions or the state of the economy, let it be clear that you're not the only one experiencing hard times.

Yes, I said what I said, because this particular greedy act was quite risky, endangering the lives of so many people.

I'm not ihe that will state a dysfunctional system without highlighting the reasons for my opinion.

So, in all honesty, I'll share it with you.

Feel free to tag it as, "WE LISTEN WE DON'T JUDGE", PUBLIC DRIVERS EDITION!"

But, in this case, I'll judge!

Sometime ago, I boarded a vehicle at the park. It was one of the oast vehicles to leave the pack, that evening, so you can imagine the rush.

Thankfully, I got in just in time and soon, the vehicle was filled up. As usual, the conductor collected our fare, and issued change, where necessary.

Thirty minutes later, we were still stuck in the park and it was getting dark. The passengers, started raising their fears and anger, for the prolonged waiting.

All the rants fell on deaf ears as the driver kept moving about without a conscience.

The worse part was that, we were locked in and the car was getting really stuffy because of course, there was no ventilation to go round.

Did the driver care? Absolutely not!

He was having loud conversations with his fellow drivers, which was centred on women and fun🤦🤦

After some minutes, he walked back without even tendering an apology and did the worst, that anyone could imagine.

You wouldn't believe what I'm about to say right now.

This driver returned with another passenger and when we started yelling, wondering where this passenger would be fitted because there were no spare seats he announced proudly, that he just brought his co-pilot.

At first, we looked at each other, wondering what he was talking about because, standing beside him was a young lady, giggling.

Right before us, the lady pushed herself into the car, from the driver's seat, sitting on the gearbox with her legs, sharing the same space with the driver's 🤯😰

Ahhhh! The car roared in disbelief and while, some took the risk of staying just so they could head to their destinations, as it was getting late, I asked for a refund as the driver vehemently refused to let his "Co-pilot" go.

I believe, they arrived safely but that's a preventable risk but yet because of greed, a driver endangered the lives of his passengers.

Passengers that are automatically his responsibility, as long as they pay for his services.

The truth is, this isn't the first if its kind because a lot of risks are taken by public drivers but there's something that should be done.

Executives of the Government or Park Monitoring Agencies should be commissioned, so these drivers can be sensitized on the need for drivers to be safety conscious.

Safety trainings, shouldn't be just for Offshore workers but for everyone, who is in a position to handle the general public, literally having their lives in their hands.

If a pilot can't have passengers in a cockpit while flying, then I don't see why, a driver who ply roads, should do.

When you hustle, it's better you eat of it with good health, than in pain. Greed kills faster!

If dem no catch one risky driver, the others no ho learn.
