Not to be confused with the more globally known Royal Bafokeng Stadium, Rustenburg’s Olympia Park Stadium has quietly stood the test of time. Opened in 1990, this multi-sport arena has a capacity of about 38,000 and is deeply embedded in the city’s local sports culture.
It earned its global stripes when it hosted several group-stage games during the 1995 Rugby World Cup. Though it wasn’t a main venue during the 2010 FIFA World Cup, Olympia Park was upgraded to FIFA standards and served as an official training ground—an important supporting role behind the scenes.
Beyond global tournaments, Olympia Park remains the heartbeat of community sport in Rustenburg. It hosts local football matches, athletic meets, school competitions, and public events, continuing to shape the athletic ambitions of young sports enthusiasts in the region.
