RIVER NIGER - AFRICA'S RIVERS AND LAKES (DAY 5).
Whilst we were growing up, I can still remember that there's this poem we were taught in Nursery 2 - "there are 5 major Rivers in Africa - Nile, Niger, Congo, Orange and Zambezi".
Today, seeing that we are to talk about one of the Rivers in Africa is giving me goosebumps.. memories flood my head.
I will be eulogizing the River Niger because I have known it for so long and even though it originally originated from Guinea, it still traverses through Niger State here in Nigeria and has even been dammed at The Kainji Dam to provide Electricity to Nigeria and even other countries in Africa. As I write, I hear the Roarings of the River Niger.. it's that close to me. So, for today, I'll be biased as I am gonna be sticking with my River Niger, Lol.
The River Niger, a serpentine force of nature, winds its way through the heart of West Africa, nourishing the lands and souls of the people it touches. Born in the Guinea highlands, it embarks on a majestic journey, traversing vast expanses of savannah and forest, shaping the destiny of nations.
As it flows, the River Niger whispers secrets to the ancient cities it encounters, its waters carrying the stories of empires risen and fallen. It quenches the thirst of sprawling metropolises and humble villages alike, its bounty sustaining life in all its forms.
In its path, the River Niger creates a tapestry of diverse cultures, each thread woven from the unique experiences of the people it meets. From the mud-brick mosques of Mopti to the vibrant markets of Onitsha, the river's presence is a constant, its influence a testament to the indomitable spirit of the African people.
As the River Niger empties into the Atlantic, its essence merges with the infinite, carrying the dreams and aspirations of a continent into the vast unknown. Its legacy remains, etched in the hearts of those who call its banks home, a reminder of the power and beauty that lies at the very heart of Africa.
Well, till I get to the promised land, I shall be waiting for when you will pass me a glass of water and thank God for the gift of grace for this race.
