Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki

This book has been recommended so many times that recommending it feels redundant. But I am recommending it anyway because most people who say they have read it have not actually read it. They have heard about it.

The core lesson: the rich do not work for money. They make money work for them. Assets put money in your pocket. Liabilities take money out. Your house is not an asset. Your car is not an asset. These are things the middle class buys while thinking they are building wealth.

The book is not perfect. Some of the advice is oversimplified. Some of the anecdotes feel exaggerated. And Kiyosaki's later work has been controversial.

But the fundamental framework - understanding the difference between assets and liabilities, between earned income and passive income - is financial literacy at its most accessible.

Who should read this: anyone who was never taught about money. Which is most of us.

Rating: 7.5/10. Read it for the framework. Ignore the hype.

kinda funny you mention that about people saying they've read it but haven't... my buddy swears by this book and i finally picked it up last year. honestly i skimmed through the stories because they do feel a bit... off? but that assets vs liabilities thing actually stuck with me. i stopped looking at my car like some kinda investment lol. still not sure i agree about the house thing though, feels like there's nuance there for most people.
