The House of Representatives has called on the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN to suspend the implementation of the increment in Automated Teller Machine transaction charges, citing the prevailing economic situation in the country.
The call was sequel to the adoption of a motion of urgent public importance sponsored by the member representing Esan Central /Esan West/Igueben Federal Constituency, Edo State, Marcus Onobun, during plenary.
Addressing his colleagues inside the Green Chamber, Onobun argued that the recent move by the apex bank will further subject Nigerians to additional financial burdens.
Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, who presided over the plenary session put the motion to voice vote which received overwhelming support by the lawmakers.
The chamber subsequently urged the apex bank to immediately suspend the implementation of the policy, until proper engagement takes place with the relevant Committees on Banking, Finance, and Financial Institutions.
