The House of Representatives has called on the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN to suspend the implementation of the increment in Automated Teller Machine transaction charges, citing the prevailing economic situation in the country.

The call was sequel to the adoption of a motion of urgent public importance sponsored by the member representing Esan Central /Esan West/Igueben Federal Constituency, Edo State, Marcus Onobun, during plenary.

Addressing his colleagues inside the Green Chamber, Onobun argued that the recent move by the apex bank will further subject Nigerians to additional financial burdens.

Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, who presided over the plenary session put the motion to voice vote which received overwhelming support by the lawmakers.

The chamber subsequently urged the apex bank to immediately suspend the implementation of the policy, until proper engagement takes place with the relevant Committees on Banking, Finance, and Financial Institutions.

Wow, that's interesting. The House really seems to be against increasing ATM fees? I guess that shows they're paying attention to the real issues affecting Nigerians. hoping this leads to some meaningful change.

Damn, another day where Nigerians are hit harder by government decisions. Hopefully, the CBN will listen this time and pause those ATM charges till they sort out proper banking reforms.

I wonder if they’re considering the impact of rising costs on everyday Nigerians with ATM fees. This seems like an urgent situation to prevent further financial hardship.
