REMINISCING THE TURNING POINTS: A Tribute to My Journey at St. Murumba College, Jos

As today’s Reflection brings with it waves of nostalgia, I’m drawn back to a chapter in my life at St. Murumba College, Jos, a chapter marked by pain, redirection, and ultimately, purpose.

I remember Mr. Mohamed my Hausa teacher, my early challenger. Upon my admission directly into SS1(A) as a science student, a minor misunderstanding with him spiraled into something far greater than I could’ve imagined. He vowed I would leave the school, and, like a drama scripted in real time, I found myself expelled, not for indiscipline or poor performance, but for being on the wrong side of a teacher’s grudge.

But providence, as always, had a different plan.

With resolve and ingenuity, I found my way back through the gates of St. Murumba college, this time under a new name. I dropped my grandfather’s name and took up my father’s, beginning not just a second admission, but a rebirth.

In hiding and caution, I navigated the halls, always one corridor ahead of Mr. Mohamed’s gaze. And yet, what seemed like the end of a dream in science became the birth of destiny in the arts.

Mr. Inyere, whose wisdom and warmth still echo in my memory, advised I switch to SS1(C), the Arts class. That single pivot brought me into the orbit of Mrs. Osaji, our Literature teacher par excellence, whose voice, passion, and mentoring awakened in me the writer I was meant to be.

Together with Mrs. Liverpool (then V.P Admin), they nurtured a flame that’s now a fire. From quiet essays to loud awards, from hidden potential to published pages, I owe this gift of words to their grace.

Today, I stand as a proud multi-award-winning author, and every time I hold a pen, I honor them.

To Mr. Inyere, Mrs. Osaji, and Mrs. Liverpool, you are not just names in a register, you are pillars of my purpose.

To Mr. Mohamed, thank you too, for unknowingly pushing me into the lane I was destined for. Truly, every disappointment carries a seed of greater direction.

This is my story. And like many Murumbans, mine is laced with pain, shaped by grace, and crowned by purpose.

To every adult out there, let us not just remember our teachers, let us honor the journey.
