Re: Clarification on the Rumor of Postponing the Potiskum United Marketer's Association Election
The attention of the Office of the Executive Chairman, Potiskum Local Government Area, has been drawn to a circulating rumours and write-up suggesting that the government plans to postpone the forthcoming election of the United Marketer's Association Potiskum.
For the avoidance of doubt, this information is entirely false and misleading.
We wish to clearly state that the Yobe State Government, the Potiskum Local Government Council, and the Interim Committee of the United Marketer's Association Potiskum Leadership are working hand-in-hand with the Local Government Electoral Committee to ensure that the election is conducted peacefully, transparently, and in full accordance with due process.
The Potiskum Local Government under the leadership of Hon. Salisu Muktari reaffirms its commitment to fairness, neutrality, and accountability in all democratic processes within the local government Area, there is no government-imposed candidate or interference in the affairs of the Market Association’s leadership selection.
The Council urges the general public—particularly traders and stakeholders—to disregard the rumor in circulation and continue to support the ongoing peaceful preparations for their upcoming elections.
We further appeal to community members, security agencies, and the media to join hands in maintaining calm and ensuring that the election is held successfully in an atmosphere of peace and unity.
