President Bola Tinubu has approved the adoption of the Tai Solarin University of Education in Ogun State, as a federal university, making it the first federally owned tertiary institution in the state East senatorial district.
The announcement was made in a press release today, signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, Tinubu expressed gratitude to the Ogun State Government for inviting the Federal Government to take over one of the state’s best educational assets, noting that the move honours the legacies of Obafemi Awolowo and Tai Solarin.
The President also acknowledged the role of the Awujale of Ijebuland in preventing the university’s closure in 2012, just seven years after its establishment.
Reinforcing the Federal Government’s commitment to advancing higher education and honouring the legacies of regional icons, the statement said the move is in alignment with the Government’s strategy to strengthen teacher education and improve instructional quality nationwide.
