The Potiskum Local Government Area Council hosted the Yobe State Task Force Committee on Human Trafficking at the Potiskum Local Government Secretariat Council Chamber.

The meeting discussed ways to jointly combat human trafficking from Yobe State to other parts of the world, citing Potiskum Local Government Area as the most affected local government area in Yobe State, being the most populous local government area in the state.

The committee, led by the Yobe State Commissioner for Justice, Bar. Saleh Samanja, expressed concern over the incident and suggested ways to curb the menace of human trafficking that is prevalent in almost all parts of Nigeria.

"It is a matter of concern and a threat to our overall security, as human trafficking is now increasing in almost all parts of Yobe State and Nigeria as a whole. It is good that we join hands to curb the problem of human trafficking from the grass roots by collaborating with our local government authorities." Said Bar. Saleh Samanja.

On the LGA's hand, the chairman of Potiskum Local Government Area, represented by his deputy, Hon. Adamu Hamza Ngojin, expressed happiness and assured support for the committee to carry out their work across the Local Government Area.

"On behalf of the Potiskum Local Government Area Council Chairman, I assure you that we are ready to provide full support to this problem that affects almost the entire life of our communities and the state as a whole.

"Currently, human trafficking in the name of providing people with jobs abroad has become a common occurrence, which will contribute to the increase in terrorist activities and pose a threat to us." He said

Mal. Saleh Zakar, the state commander of the Yobe State Anti-Traffickingin Persons Task Force and also the committee's secretary, explained how the problem is growing and the successes they are achieving in overcoming the problems across Yobe State.

"Despite the successes we have achieved in combating this problem, it is still prevalent in society, as the main cause is unemployment among the youth. We have arrested many people, and they have faced legal action, some even imprisonment," he said.
