Gov. Buni of Yobe State has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to peace, inclusive growth and transparent governance, declaring that the visible transformation unfolding across the state is the direct dividend of sustained security and strategic leadership.
The governor made this known at the conclusion of an extensive statewide media tour that brought together journalists from local, national, and international media organizations. The tour provided firsthand exposure to Yobe’s remarkable transition from years of insurgency to a phase marked by stability, reconstruction, and socio-economic revival.
Over the course of the tour, media professionals inspected a wide range of completed and ongoing projects across key sectors including education, healthcare, commerce, transportation and urban renewal, many of the projects are situated in communities that were once cut off by insecurity, highlighting the depth and reach of recovery across both rural and urban areas of the state.
The journalists visited newly constructed and rehabilitated schools, modern healthcare facilities, ultra-modern markets, expanded road networks and upgraded drainage systems.
At nearly every location, members of the media commended the quality, spread and impact of the projects, describing them as tangible evidence of inclusive governance, prudent resource management and purposeful leadership in a post-conflict environment.
Several journalists noted that the developments effectively challenge outdated perceptions of conflict-affected regions, observing that Yobe’s experience reflects a deliberate effort to restore dignity, stimulate economic activity and reconnect communities long disrupted by violence.
The tour culminated at the August 27th Stadium in Damaturu, where Governor Buni inspected the ongoing reconstruction and upgrade of the historic facility. Representatives of Damuli Investment Company, the project contractor, briefed the Governor and the media on the scope of work, progress recorded and anticipated completion timelines.
Addressing journalists at the site, Governor Buni expressed appreciation to the media for engaging directly with realities on the ground.
“You have seen for yourselves the peace we now enjoy and the steady progress of development across Yobe State,” the governor said.
Recalling Yobe’s past, he noted that the state was once at the epicentre of the Boko Haram insurgency, adding that the August 27th Stadium itself was previously occupied by insurgents during the height of the crisis.
“This facility once symbolized fear and destruction. Today, it stands as a powerful symbol of recovery, peace, and our collective resolve to rebuild stronger,” he stated.
Gov. Buni explained that his administration’s post-conflict recovery strategy is comprehensive, focusing not only on physical infrastructure but also on livelihoods, social cohesion and the restoration of public confidence.
“The destruction cut across every sector, our response, therefore, has been holistic—revitalising education, healthcare, infrastructure and the economy to guarantee lasting stability and normalcy for our people,” he said.
He further noted that the redevelopment of the stadium aligns with the administration’s broader policy of reviving public assets, ensuring value for money, and leveraging infrastructure as a catalyst for social interaction, youth engagement, and economic growth.
According to the Governor, the statewide media tour forms part of his transparency and accountability drive, designed to allow Nigerians and the international community to witness a new Yobe—one no longer defined by insurgency, but by resilience, renewal and sustainable development.
“This is the Yobe we are deliberately building: peaceful, inclusive, and full of opportunity,” Governor Buni concluded.
