Day 25 - Facial Herbal Steam benefits

With aging the face tends to loose elasticity and one of the best ways to rejuvenate the facial skin is through steaming.

Steaming your face can have many benefits, including:
- Hydration
Steaming can provide your skin with water, which helps it retain strength and elasticity.
- Improved circulation
The heat from steaming increases blood flow, which delivers more oxygen to your skin and can help stimulate collagen and elastin production.
- Softened skin
Steaming softens the outer layer of your skin, which can help loosen debris and oil.
- Better product absorption
Steaming makes your skin more permeable, so skincare products can sink in more easily.
- Blackhead removal
Steaming can help soften skin and loosen oil and buildup in pores.
- Acne fighting
Steaming can help free sebum from pores, which can prevent pimples from forming.

However, steaming is not recommended for people with sensitive skin, rosacea, eczema, or broken capillaries. The heat and steam can trigger "facial flushing" in people prone to redness.

Aside the above benefits, steaming also aids the facial skin in other ways.

The heat from face steams loosens oils to aid in the removal of unwanted substances, like excess sebum (oils produced by your skin follicles), dirt and bacteria.
Since acne is caused by excess sebum trapped in your follicles prompting bacteria growth, face steams help combat acne.

When your pores are open and warm, they can more easily absorb hydration as well as any skincare products you apply afterwards.

The heat from the steam also results in increased circulation, promoting healing.

Face steaming is also a meditative, calming practice you can incorporate into your mindfulness routine.

Try this Herbal facial steam at home:
- Wash your face clean
- Put your chosen herbs in a bowl
- Pour boiling water over the herbs
- Position your face about 10 inches above the bowl, with your eyes closed
- Cover your head and the bowl with a towel to create a tent
- Breathe in deeply and evenly for 5–10 minutes, or until you're comfortable.

Here are some herbs you can use for different skin types:
- Normal skin: Lavender and sage
- Oily and combination skin: Mint and lemon peel
- Mature, dry, and sensitive skin: Chamomile and rose
- Skin healing: Calendula, which is anti-microbial, anti-fungal, and anti-inflammatory
