ONCE A SACRED LAND

In tranquil lands,
We often danced,
Ethics undaunted,
Thriving in excellence
Where ancestral rituals
Were unshaken pillars.

Emigrants cutting ground
From under our feet,
Fair creatures sailing our seas,
Infringing solemnity,
Invading kingdoms,
Altering doctrines.

Selfishly driven
Material hands
Trading government,
Indigenous beliefs
Now extinct,
With tearful eyes,
Watch as our land dies.

Elders turned servitudes,
Customs unwavering
Now unhale.
Once a sacred land,
Now a fairy tale.
