The Yobe State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has formally commended the Executive Chairman of Potiskum Local Government Area, Hon. Salisu Muktari, for his swift and humanitarian response in restoring water supply to the Potiskum Custodial Centre.

The commendation followed the successful repair of a damaged borehole that had disrupted the water supply at the facility, creating operational and welfare challenges for inmates and correctional personnel. The intervention by the local government chairman ensured the immediate restoration of a clean and reliable water supply to the center.

In a statement issued on January 5, 2026, the Controller of Corrections, Yobe State Command, described Hon. Salisu Muktari’s action as a timely show of leadership and compassion, emphasizing its positive impact on the welfare of inmates and staff.

“The Chairman has consistently stood tall in support of the Nigerian Correctional Service,” the Controller stated. “His compassionate intervention will significantly enhance the welfare of inmates; water is fundamental to life and human dignity, and addressing this challenge contributes directly to creating a stable and humane environment necessary for effective rehabilitation.”

The Controller noted that the restored water supply has eased pressure on the facility’s daily operations, improved sanitation, and strengthened the overall living and working conditions within the Custodial Centre.

The Yobe State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service reaffirmed its commitment to the safe, secure, and humane custody of inmates while appreciating the continued partnership and support of the Potiskum Local Government in achieving correctional and national security objectives.

The commendation was conveyed by ASC Abdullahi Adamu, FCIA, the Command Public Relations Officer, Yobe State Command Headquarters, Damaturu, on behalf of the Controller of Corrections.

The development has been widely regarded as a practical demonstration of responsive governance and effective collaboration between local government authorities and security institutions in Yobe State.
