Whenever people individuals want to talk about the richness of Africa, certain criteria like our cuisine and food must be mentioned. Jollof rice is one of such foods commonly served and known in West Africa and has spread to pther regions and even across the continent.
This cuisine is made with long-grain rice, spices like curry and thyme, pepper, tomatoes, onions, spices, and pther condiments. The dish is known for its vibrant color and rich flavor.
Because of its savory taste and sweetness, debate across different countries claim it as theirs. The most notable contenders for the birthplace of Jollof rice are Nigeria, Senegal, and Ghana.
Well today is not a good day for debates because the Nigerian Jollof rice happens to he the most loved and widely preapred, served and feasted upon. Shortly we'll be looking at how Nigerian prepare Jollof rice and what mysterious ingredient makes its unique and special.
Recipe and Style:
Jollof rice has no universal recipe as it can be customized to suit ones preferences. Basic ingredients are necessary to have a similar jollof rice experience as I have. Here are some ingredients: red bell peppers, tomato paste, onions, vegetable oil, curry powder, thyme, bay leaves, seasoning cubes, chicken or meat stock, long-grain, parboiled rice, Salt, salad composed of Cabbage, carrots, peas, green beans, mayonnaise and baked corn.
Fun Fact: Nigerian Jollof rice is also known as "Party Jollof" simply because it is the most served food at occasions, parties especially on Sunday's.
