Every Tuesdays was a day set aside in our school for environmental sanitation. It normally commence in the evening. I went back to the hostel after school, hoping that I will also participate in the environmental sanitation.
At about 3:30pm I was getting migraine. I thought it just a normal phenomenon which will go away on it own. Shortly, I was deluged with serious cold, and shivering at the same time.
I was rushed to the school clinic by my classmate. This was what hampered me from being part and parcel of the school environmental sanitation. I didn't bother about the punishment any entity of absentism will face.
I thought in my mind, “after all my sister Loretta is the sanitary prefect. She will protect my interest ”.
Definitely it's said, “ Man proposes God disposes ”. After the morning devotion in the school assembly hall. Every student was asked to present their clearance card which entails you participated in the school environmental sanitation.
I wasn't bother, because I know my sister Loretta will definitely fetch me out. Frederick also didn't participate in the school environmental sanitation.
Loretta didn't come as I aspect. Nelly, my elder sister by pass a clearance card to Fredrick his school son. I didn't notice this earlier. Frederick later divulge to me the whole drama.
Frederick tender the clearance card and when to the class. Student who didn't participate in the school environmental sanitation was given twelve lashes each. It wasn't over, our punishment was extended to hard labor.
We were all given large portion of grass to cut after school. The policy hounded with the grass cutting stipulated as ; No clearing of grass, No going home.
I was miffed, because I was very hungry. I didn't have money for snacks that very day in school. I managed to cut half of my portion. All this while my sister where the hostel eating extravagantly without minding if their brother is fine or not.
" Evans are Senior Nelly and Loretta your biological sisters?," Clara asked with expectancy.
" Of course they are. Why did you asked ?," I said with a frown.
“ Evans, why are you undergoing punishment of this sort when your sisters are entitled with post of responsibilities in this school ?," Clara my classmate said with some concern.
" Honestly, I don't know," I said in a sorrowful mien.
" You supposed not to stressed yourself like this. Remember the doctor said you should have adequate rest," Clara cut in.
" Yes, I know. But this is actually dilemma. I don't have a possible alternative to choose than to stick unto the school order," I replied.
It was classmates who quickly to my aid and assisted me to clear the my entire portion of grass. I was exhausted, my bones become sapless. I couldn't move an inch.
Joseph, my roommate carry me on his shoulder to the hostel. That was how I escaped dead that very day in school.
I recall the question Clara asked me in school. I was improbable if they're my biological sisters.
I decided to go rest a little before I go and inquire from senior Loretta why she didn't come and redeem in the school assembly hall.....
