My March through the Months

Was told to take care of the Laundry in January
I felt it wasn't my place and became angry
But after a pep talk and a summary
I decided to obey all and Sundry

My mother got concerned with my age in February
She felt I was old enough to settle down and marry
But when I told her how much her family demanded for dowry
She shouted 'I don't think her father paid one-tenth of that in cowries!'

I had a heart-to-heart talk with the Landlord in March
Ten thousand naira is too much for disposal of thrash
He advised me to visit their office but not without enough cash
For movement from one point to another is done with a little 'dash'

I attended a sermon in the city in April
The Pastor warned against boozing and a spending spree
He said even in Freetown the lunch is not free
After the sermon to my amazement some people disagreed

One unusual thing happened to me in May
I got a call from my boss and this to my dismay
He asked me if I was born a twin and I answered nay
He said a billionaire businessman looked like we are made of the same clay

'People should learn to respect the month of June'
So says the presenter on the radio station I tuned
I wonder why people born in June think they were born in the moon
Of course their older siblings knew they were born at noon

I met a cunny personality in July,
A man who knows a lot but very sly
He floated a micro bank and called it 'Flyhigh'
He disappeared with people's money and made them cry

One of the longest months of the year is August
It's better to be parsimonious and appear just
Adjust your expenditure and reduce your cost
Some refused this sermon and bit the dust

What a pessimistic view people attached to September!
You'll hear all over the media 'beware of the months of ember'
Making you look like the traffic light of amber
We are not ready to go now for we are not their members

I always feel relaxed and happy in the month of October
Because I have this feeling that our problem is over
But when I see some expenses I run for cover
I'll manage what I have and wait for the crossover

Created a vegetable farm in November
I needed to spice up my food, especially 'eba'
Maybe I'd sell some and even take it to the bar
It's an area of contemplation if I am not debarred

How do I thank the Lord for making it to December?
With Him, I overcame the onslaught of the pretender
When I look around, discussing with the barber
No doubt this is certainly a year to remember

Happy New Year.
