My aunt taught me to tie knots when I was nine. Not macrame — fishing knots, because that is what you learn when you grow up near water.

Twenty years later I am tying different knots for different reasons. Every piece takes about forty hours. People always ask if I can make it faster. I can. But then it would not be this.

Handmade means someone chose to spend their time making something instead of buying it cheaper elsewhere. That is the real luxury.

My grandpa taught me how to splice rope when I was like 12. Never got into macrame but man, the patience thing — people don't get why something taking 40 hours is the whole point. It's like they want the handmade look without the hand you know? Yours looks incredible btw, that knotwork is so clean.
