Nestled in the peaceful hills of Nyamagabe District, about 160 km south of Kigali, the Murambi Genocide Memorial Centre stands as a profound symbol of remembrance and reflection on Rwanda’s tragic past. Originally a technical school, it became a horrific massacre site during the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi.

🕯️ History
Thousands of Tutsis sought refuge here, hoping for safety, only to be trapped and brutally killed by Hutu militias in April 1994. Around 20,000 lives were lost in this dark chapter.

💀 The Memorial
Unlike many memorials, Murambi preserves the exhumed bodies of over 800 victims, displayed respectfully in classrooms. This haunting exhibit offers an unfiltered window into the magnitude of the genocide, serving both as a reminder and a call for peace.
