*Mother*
Mother, what does it mean to be carried in your womb for several months?
What pain did your body endure?
What distress overcame your pleasure?
What challenges trailed your paths?
Is any food so sweet, now puking yet inviting?
Any position of rest so desirous yet distressing?
Is any ideal attire, customary, now unfitting?
Are there places of interest, habitual, now forbidden?
For the period of pregnancy is a period of pain and pressure
A time to prepare for the arrival of a new creature
Several months of abstinence from fun and pleasure
A couple of moments spent acquiring her treasure
Drat those men! How dare you abuse our mothers?
Their burdens thou shall not increase, no, not with the weight of a feather.
Your work is accomplished as fathers.
Their protruding bellies testify to your pleasure
Come, mother, have a deserved rest under the tree of life
For you are delicate like the eyes to the body
You have shown yourself a dedicated wife
Come away from the gossip that engenders strife
Take care Mother, and tread with caution
Work with purpose and precision
Lest my sister be injured
For with you, our future is assured
So we wait passionately but patiently
Looking forward to the pain that heralds her arrival
The threshold of the joy that welcomes every loved one
Our blood, our baby, our sister, our own
