Hello neighbour,

Dress sense in Africa always gives us away even before we utter a word. Our dress though ancient still stream through the tides of modern fashion trends and flair. Surprisingly, the Western world who are known for contemporary outfits and style have been, even in increasing incorporating African dress sense into modern flair and fashion style.

Did you know that the word flair refers to an unusual and appealing quality or style? The Yoruba Agbada ati gele and iro, the Boubou from Senegal, or Ghana's Kente and the Habesha Kemis designed for ladies in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, hold great flair in our modern world.

I stumbled on a modern movie that raked in a whole lot of profit. Interestingly, the movie featured a whole lot of African dress codes. The movie that I speak of is the renown Black Panther produced by Marvel universe.

Ruth E. Carter, the costume director studied the garments of the Maasai and other African tribes and weave them into Modern movie and it yielded great results. Here are some African dreas style blended into modern or contemporary flair:

1. Queen Ramonda of Wakanda (Angela Basset) could be seen dressed in a Zulu hat (isicholo), traditionally made out of palm fiber, hair, and ocher, and mounted on a steel stand. She wore this on a regal purple gown as seen at the beginning of the film. Her gold neckpiece and a 3D-printed isicholo (a traditional Zulu headdress worn by married women in South Africa) gave this scene a stellar performance.

2. You carefully observe the lavish display of traditional white outfits like the raffia skirt that M'Baku (Winston Duke) wears to the jewelry and neck rings.
3. Shuri's laboratory dress: Being a scientist, it would seem appropriate to wear a laboratory coat. However shuri is adorned in white as well as some scenes portray her in African attire as the design reveals.
4. Black Panther's Embroided Black tunic. The sleeves looked more Nigerian.

Even in death, a lot of people even in Africa and beyond have incorporated, notably amongst other, the Black Panther black tunic. The Isicholo remains a native attire of the Zulu people in South Africa.

The movie black panther indeed is a beautiful marriage of Traditional adornment or clothing and modern flair. Let's keep tabs on Discovering Africa it will be worth it if you also Visit Africa.
