Love is just a mirage,
a facade of disguised feelings,
characterized by its temporality
a fickle display of affection,
limited, of course,
only in play when gains are in view.
And when the gain outweighs the cost,
it dissipates into thin air
some slowly, some quick,
but always scarring,
leaving an indelible mark
on the soul,
on the heart
of the one who dared to believe.
It is unreal, surreal
a mere imagination,
believed but never truly experienced.
