The United Kingdom’s Border Security Minister, Angela Eagle has pledged that migrants overstaying their visas in the country will be removed, after data showed they account for nearly 40% of asylum claims.

Eagle, in an interview, lamented that the Labour government inherited a system with a 70% fall in any kind of processing with 100,000 people in dispersal accommodation or hotels who weren’t even being processed by the previous government.

She accused migrants of backtracking after claiming to have the means to exist in the country without relying on public funds but later lived in taxpayer-funded hotels or government accommodation.

Disturbed by the trend, Home Secretary Yvette Cooper has ordered an investigation amid concerns the visa system is being exploited by migrants as a backdoor to residency.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Keir Starmer hosted a summit with 40 nations to tackle illegal migration, urging global cooperation against smuggling gangs.

The numbers are alarming, but at least they're taking action. Hopefully, this won't lead to more exploitation issues.

The UK government is finally stepping up against those who misuse their visas, which is a positive move. However, it's still concerning how some individuals seem to have no qualms about staying beyond their legitimate stay. Let's hope this trend changes.

Grumble, but still hopeful. Migrants in hotels? That's gotta be a problem. Hopefully, they fix the processing system before it’s too late. Meanwhile, let's hope those summits actually do something.
