DAY 16 - KANO-FEZZAN ROUTE, KANO STATE NIGERIA
Have you ever wondered what the slave trade routes looked like back in the days of the Trans-Saharan Slave trade? Let's go back in time to ply the Kano-Fezzan trade route during the trans-Saharan trade.
This route served three basic functions. First, it helped facilitate trade between North Africa and West Africa. Also, it allowed the transportation of goods such as salt, gold and slaves. Lastly, it established cultural and economic connections between various regions.
Spanning across the Middle East and Europe, the trade network allowed communication between buyers and sellers. The Kano-Fezzan route was particularly important because it helped with the transportation of goods from Distant West Africa to Egypt. Also to Trade Centres in North Africa, to Europe and Near East which is the modern day Syria, Jordan, Lebanon and Israel. These activities formed the basis of the first global economies.
