A state of my feelings
A state I cannot seem to comprehend
A state I fear I might never comprehend
And that's the issue: no one comprehends that about me.

They see me, but they don't see me
They hear me, but they don't hear me
On the outside, I look like I have a great life,
But my mind's constantly in chaos,
And my thoughts are in turmoil.

Sometimes I try to be open,
I try to be honest,
I try to be true to myself and others,
But there's the fear of vulnerability,
Of rejection,
Of hurt,
Of betrayal.

There's the ego,
And then there's the hate,
There's the disgust,
There's the eye roll.
I try to feel, but halfway,
I get to see why I shouldn't.

One little mistake means a big no in my world,
And off you go, tumbling,
As I bang the door at your face.

I'm just a woman,
Who's scared of being weak,
Disappointed,
Betrayed,
And hurt.
And to protect myself,
I must guard the things that are prone to make me weak.
