Picture gallant men, tall on elaborate horses; women in woven reds, greens and gold's hauling Nono in calabashes carried on the head; the sound of the haunting, elegant scream of the kakaaki over a red, dusty savannah. This is Adamawa state, Nigeria, and I, Chelsea Nahai Awang, am your tour guide.
My favourite Nigerian snack is "Fura da nono". Nono is an organic cow's milk yoghurt that can be garnished with Fura or, my favorite, danbu. If you ever want to taste authentic Fura da nono, you have to do it in Adamawa state. The Fulani people of Nigeria are known for their cattle and dairy products, and many of them live in Adamawa, Yola. The Jippu Jam roundabout in the middle of Yola, Adamawa, shows a milkmaid's calabash that would ordinarily be filled with Fura da nono and carried on the head, while another roundabout called, "Mai Shanu", meaning "Cowboy", showcases a Fulani couple and their cow. you can tell we don't play with our Nono😏.
