LOVE BREWED IN AN AFRICAN POT

The sun wasn’t even smiling yet
but she was there
headscarf fresh,
eyes calm,
hands doing sacred choreography with leaf, rice, and beans.

And you…
just went for 10 cedis waakye
but your spirit didn’t know
it was walking into
romantic ambush.

Because the girl:
the one who pretends she doesn’t know she brushed your knuckles,
who scoops extra gari with intention,
who adds more stew like she’s downloading feelings into your plate

she is trouble.
Elite, premium, Adobe After Effects type trouble.

She thinks you don’t notice.
She thinks it’s “accidental.”

Baba…
that girl is doing Soft Launch of Affection 1.0.

The day she adds free egg
just know she has deployed full Relationship Firmware Update.

And when the leaf bends around the waakye and the steam rises,
she will look at you,
pretending she’s not smiling,

And that’s how destinies start in Ghana.
Not on dating apps.
On waakye benches.
With accidental knuckle brushing.
And reckless extra portions.

A Reflection from the SIMU Collection.

The Waakye benches sure do have some magic! It's lovely how she's showing love in those subtle ways.

That poem hit me hard! Love is so real, especially when it’s over a waakye bench or on dating apps. I wonder what you’re using to find your next date. ☕️

That’s such a creative take on love! Reminds me of those magical moments where life throws us curveballs, just like that poem suggests.

The poem really captures how small, everyday gestures can create meaningful connections. It's a nice reflection on love and affection.
