Look, I think it depends entirely on what you want to do and how you learn. I went the trades route right out of high school, got an electrical apprenticeship, and by 22 I was making more than most of my friends with degrees. No debt, and I own a house now. But I also saw my cousin get a degree in nursing and she walked into a 70k job right after grad. She needed that piece of paper to even apply.
A degree is a tool, not a golden ticket. If your field legally requires it, like medicine or engineering, then yeah, it's worth it. But for a lot of office jobs now, employers care more about skills and experience. I've hired people for my crew with no formal education but with hands-on experience from trade school or just working with a family member. The guy with the degree in business couldn't wire a panel to save his life.
The real question is: can you get where you want to go without the debt? If you can network, learn online, do internships, or start your own thing, a degree might be overkill. But if you need the structure or the specific credential, go for it. Just don't do it because everyone tells you to.
