Let me tell you about my 2023, in a wrap

In the beginning was January,
With new resoluteness and vigor,
I carried hopes, unfulfilled dreams,
Unanswered prayers, unticked intentions,
A fresh page and a disturbed heart.

Then came February,
I loved and lost,
Hoped to conquer on the long run.
Maybe before the end of the year's frost.

Marching on with a steady pace,
Advancing past the Easter, Summer and Spring.
After month Six came my all time favourite, July,
The month of my nascence and genesis,
Like greased lightning, became my nemesis.

Just like an August visitor,
my past surprisingly came running and, for its tricks,l fell even harder
But in consolidation with a greater desire, I came out stronger.
And in the blink of an eye, gone was my September.

Just like the historical Africans,
I laboured and took a sneak peek at independence,
I opened the curtains wider and gained absolute freedom.
On my way to victory, the veil was completely torn

Being so occupied with the daily struggles, fears and fights,
I did not realise I was in oblivion.
Forgetting completely my impending finish line Unaware that my quest for progress was finally in alignment.

Upon realisation, I transcended to conventional thanksgiving.
Experienced more joy and laughter.
Maybe now you can call me Sekani

Now it's Winter, in December,
The long awaited frost.
Though, twice in a row, I loved and lost
Innumerably, I sought and fought.

I pen this with a myriad of emotions.
As I hope to not leave words unsaid.
Both to friends and foes.
Cheers to another close,
Here's to no more sorrows.
