Places to Visit in 📍Lagos, Nigeria
The story of Lekki Conservation Centre (LCC) began in 1990 when the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF) established the center as part of their efforts to promote environmental conservation and biodiversity protection in Nigeria. The NCF, a leading environmental organization in the country, aimed to preserve the fast-disappearing natural ecosystems on the Lekki Peninsula, which were under threat due to rapid urbanization and industrialization in Lagos.
Located along the Lekki-Epe Expressway in Lagos State, the 78-hectare site of LCC was chosen for its unique mix of ecosystems, including wetlands, mangroves, and savannah. These areas are home to a diverse array of wildlife and plant species. The center was designed to serve as a refuge for wildlife and a place for scientific research and education.
The main goal of the Lekki Conservation Centre is to promote environmental conservation by offering protection to flora and fauna, educating the public on sustainable practices, and fostering an appreciation for the importance of natural ecosystems. It was created with a vision to serve both as an eco-tourism destination and as a living classroom for school children, researchers, and nature lovers.
