Learning to write proper sales copy. I was a graphic designer for years, making things look pretty but letting others describe them. One day I realized I could close deals myself if I could just write the words that made people buy.

I started with copywriting books like "The Copywriter's Handbook" by Robert Bly and "Influence" by Robert Cialdini. I practiced on my own projects, rewriting product descriptions for a friend's Etsy shop. The first time a customer said they bought something because of how I described it, something clicked. I started offering copywriting as an add-on to design clients. Within a year, I was making more from the copy than the design.

The real change came when I learned to write for conversion. Not just sounding good, but structuring sentences to overcome objections, build desire, and guide someone to say yes. I tested headlines, call-to-action buttons, and email sequences. My first A/B test showed a 40% lift in signups just by changing one sentence.

It pulled me out of being a commodity designer into someone who could directly generate revenue. Suddenly I wasn't just another graphic artist; I was a marketing partner. That shift tripled my rates and gave me control over my career direction.
