keep me close

"keep me close" I chanted
and it seemed dear Nile heard
for her rhythmic ripples danced to my mantra
far from been coy she was.
Soon my palms clapped as they met accompanied by a barely audible hum
The fishes in the deep Congo twirled in sync
it seemed my distinct tempo pleased them so.
Along the banks of the Niger arose a great harmony
from the mouths of the labourers underneath the Elaesis guineensis sang
"close will we stay, for by the waters we are bound"
I smiled as I heard the bellow echoeing over the Senegal river
she couldn't resist the yearning to join the symphony
one could tell that the merrier she grew
the louder she became
Our song stretched to the channels of the Limpopo
satisfaction was gained from every route the rhythm treaded
the chants resounded
"keep me close"
Oh Zambezi, will your roar play the drum
that will set our feet in motion
and our bodies to a swirl?
Oranje stood calm and still
shimmering as the sun kissed her lucid body
soon the traversing notes awoke her ecstasy
and her waves affirmed with a big leap
Listen, our song shall be heard
for i drink from the waters of Africa
The clear liquid blended with our dark red blood
holds unseen strings that calls us to sing one song
"Close will we stay for by the waters we are bound"
