I've been to the Martello Tower Museum a couple of times, and what really stood out to me is how much history is packed into such a small space. The tower itself is a reminder of the British colonial era, built to defend against potential French attacks, but the museum does a great job balancing that story with the local Mauritian perspective. One thing I haven't seen mentioned yet is the video they show inside. It's about 15 minutes long and uses old maps and animations to explain how these towers were part of a network across the island. That really helped me picture the coastline as it was 200 years ago.

Practical tip: Go on a weekday morning if you can. I went on a Saturday once and it was busier, with school groups. Weekday mornings are quieter, and you can take your time reading the exhibits. Also, don't skip the small gift shop. They have some really cool handmade souvenirs, like miniature boats and local crafts, that you won't find in the bigger tourist shops.

If you're into photography, the view from the top is fantastic, especially around late afternoon when the light hits the lagoon. Just watch your step on the spiral staircase, it's narrow and slippery when damp.

Wait, there's a video?! I totally missed that when I went. Just walked around reading the plaques and staring out the windows like a goon lol. Gotta go back now. Also spot on about the spiral staircase, I nearly ate it coming down because it was drizzling that day. The gift shop tip is clutch too, I didn't even think to check
