I've actually crossed the Kazungula Ferry a few times on trips between Botswana and Zambia, and the four-nation meeting point is one of those things that sounds gimmicky but is genuinely fascinating when you're there. The spot where Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Namibia nearly touch is a narrow stretch of the Zambezi River, and it's surreal to stand on the ferry deck and see three other countries from one viewpoint. What most people don't mention is how the ferry itself operates as a lifeline for locals, not just tourists. On my last crossing, I chatted with a truck driver who hauls maize from Zambia to Botswana markets, and he said the ferry saves him a 500-kilometer detour through Zimbabwe. The wait times can be brutal though - sometimes two hours or more if there's a queue of lorries. If you're planning to visit, bring patience and cash for the crossing fee, which is usually payable in pula or kwacha. The new Kazungula Bridge being built nearby is changing things fast, but the old ferry still runs for now and has a gritty, working-river charm that the bridge won't replicate.
