I visited the Blue Penny Museum last year and honestly went in expecting just a quick stamp look, but I ended up spending almost two hours. The main draw is obviously the red and blue penny stamps, but what really stuck with me was the genuine depth of the museum's storytelling about colonial Mauritius and the old Port Louis harbor. They have these intricate ship models and maps that show how the island was basically a pit stop for every major empire back then.

One thing I haven't seen mentioned is the museum's collection of old maritime paintings. There's one huge canvas of the harbor from the 1800s that literally makes you feel like you're standing on the dock. It's actually a great photo spot too no flash allowed though. Also, the staff there are incredibly knowledgeable. I asked about the shipwreck that nearly destroyed the penny stamps and the security guard overheard and gave me a ten minute lecture on 19th century postal routes. He was genuinely excited.

If you're going, budget at least an hour and a half minimum. The air conditioning is a lifesaver after walking around Port Louis. And don't skip the short video room near the exit it explains why those tiny stamps are worth a small fortune today.
