I tried the 5 AM club for three months. Here is my honest review.
Week one I felt like a superhero. I watched the sunrise. I journaled. I drank lemon water like it was liquid discipline. I texted my friends at 6 AM about how they were wasting their lives sleeping.
Week three the alarm went off and I genuinely considered throwing my phone out the window. But I got up. Because the internet said winners wake up early and I wanted to be a winner.
Month two I was productive in the morning but completely useless by 2 PM. I was snapping at people. I fell asleep during a meeting. My body was awake at 5 but my brain clocked out at lunch.
Month three I got sick. Not a cold. The kind of sick where your body says I have been asking you nicely and now I am shutting everything down.
Here is what nobody tells you about the 5 AM club: it only works if you also go to bed at 9 PM. And going to bed at 9 PM means missing dinners with friends, missing evening events, missing the hours when most human connection actually happens.
The 5 AM club is not a productivity hack. It is a lifestyle trade-off. And for most people - especially people with families, social lives, or jobs that do not end at 5 PM - the trade-off is terrible.
Some of the most successful people I know wake up at 8. They just use their hours well.
Productivity is not about when you start. It is about what you do with the hours you are actually alert.
Sleep is not laziness. It is infrastructure. And anyone who tells you otherwise is selling a course.
