I have spent a fair amount of time passing through Selebi-Phikwe Airport over the years, mostly for work related to mining logistics rather than tourism. What strikes me most is how the airport feels like a quiet witness to the town's boom and bust cycles. The terminal is small and functional, but there is a certain charm in its simplicity. The runway itself is surprisingly long for such a quiet airport, originally built to handle heavy cargo planes supporting the BCL mine operations.
One thing I have not seen mentioned yet is the nearby Kgaswe Dam. If you have a few hours between flights, it is worth the short drive from the airport. The area around the dam is peaceful, with a nice spot for a picnic or just to stretch your legs after sitting in a small plane. The water attracts a fair number of birds, so if you are into birdwatching, bring binoculars. The road is dirt but passable with a regular car.
Also, keep in mind that the airport has limited services. There is a small cafeteria, but hours can be unpredictable. I always pack snacks and water when I fly in or out. If you need fuel, there is a filling station just outside the airport gate, but it closes early, so plan accordingly. The staff are friendly though, and if you ask nicely, they might help you arrange a taxi into town.
