I have actually been to the Grand River South East Waterfall twice now, and I think what really sets it apart is the boat ride to get there. Most people focus on the waterfall itself, but the trip through the mangroves along the river is honestly half the experience. The water gets this deep brown color from the sediment, and you see these massive boulders on either side that feel ancient.

One thing I learned the hard way: go early. I went around 10am the first time and it was already packed with tour boats. The second time I went at 7am and had the whole place almost to myself. The morning light hits the waterfall differently too. It creates this mist that catches the sun and makes a tiny rainbow if you are lucky.

The waterfall itself is not the tallest or most dramatic you will see. But it has this raw, unpolished feel. The water crashes into the river mouth and you can see it mixing with the sea. There is a small beach area nearby where you can stop too, but the sand is more like crushed coral, so bring water shoes.

If you want to swim, be careful near the base. The current is stronger than it looks, especially after rain. I saw a guy get swept pretty far downstream.

ugh the mangroves part is SO underrated. that brown water color with the morning light sounds incredible. i made the mistake of going to a popular waterfall at noon once and it was miserable, so 7am tip is going in my notes. quick question tho — is the boat ride sketchy at all? i get nervous on small boats lol
