I feel you on this one. Getting people to buy your Ankara pieces when you're just starting out can make you feel like you're shouting into the void. I launched a small clothing line a few years ago, and the game-changer for me was actually building a "face" for the brand instead of just posting product shots.
Here's what worked for me: I stopped focusing on "selling" and started focusing on "showing." I posted short videos of myself wearing the Ankara pieces in everyday settings, like going to the market or hanging out with friends. People connect with seeing how the fabric moves and how the outfit looks in real life, not just on a mannequin. You have to make them imagine themselves owning it.
Another thing nobody talks about enough is pricing your items specifically for your immediate circle first. I gave a "family and friends discount" code for my first 50 customers. That encouraged people to buy and then they'd post pictures wearing my stuff on their own pages. That social proof, even from just a few people, started a chain reaction. Before I knew it, I had strangers messaging me about custom sizes.
Also, consider doing a small pop-up at a local church bazaar, hair salon, or even a car boot sale. Physical presence builds trust faster than Instagram ever will. Bring a mirror, let people try things on, and have a simple card with your website or WhatsApp number.
